Back to School Hacks: How To Make School Suck Less

A guide to making your school less blergh and more pergh!

How many of you have said the words “school sucks” at least once in your life? ‘Cause I definitely have and I know I’m not alone.

I am not trying to be edgy, but if you’re in school right now, some of you’ll probably agree that school sucks. Maybe not totally, but there’s always room for improvement and these school hacks might just do the trick.

Remember, not all children are as lucky as you to get an education. In case you tak tau, some 350,000 children in Malaysia were out of school in 2015 because of poverty, disability or cos they didn’t have documentation like a birth cert. So let’s make the best of school!

SCHOOL HACKS THAT WILL ACTUALLY WORK

So, to welcome the new school year, here are some school hacks to make school suck just a wee bit less.

Tip #1 : Tak paham? Tanya.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions! “Why are we learning this?” “How will this be useful in real life?”

Tip #2: Use the Internet.
The internet isn’t just for memes! If you can’t find information in your textbook, go online. Berlambak resources okay. But make sure you know how to tell what’s real vs fake.

Tip #3: Don’t procrastinate on homework (no, srsly).
Trust me. Buat stress je. And it’ll only make you hate school more! Get homework out of the way ASAP so you can have more time to chill.

Tip #4: Form Friendships.
“Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb” – your best friendships will be formed as you go through challenges together (like Add Math lol) so making time for friends will make school bearable or even fun!

Step 1: Find friends.
Step 2: Harness ya’lls’ collective brain power.
Step 3: Sama-sama pass all your exams 💯

Tip #6: Use this time to find your passions.
School is a time to really pick up on what excites you – use it as an opportunity to plan for your future. Follow what makes you tick!

Tip #7: Participate. Actively.
Kalau buat dek, memang tak untung la. Clubs can actually be pretty fun and fulfilling if you choose to actually join the activities.

Tip #8: Make your Voice Heard.
Take advantage of your school’s speaker’s corner to talk about things you care about. If your school doesn’t have one, start one.

Tip #9: Join Student Council.

Tip #10: Deal with Bullies.
School sucks way more when there are bullies – make sure you report them to your teachers to make school safer for you and your friends.

Tip #11: Do stuff outside of the classroom.
Have side projects – involve yourself in your community. Volunteer, do the sports, join the book club, go for guitar class. JUST DO STUFF.

Tip #12: Stressed about Studies? Speak to a Counselor.
School can be a lot sometimes. And it’s important that you reach out. School counselors are the best people to go to for advice – memang pun they’re there to help you, so might as well talk to them.

And to end this list of school hacks, here’s a very, very important one!

Tip #13: Don’t judge yourself on grades alone.
Test scores aren’t everything. You should always prioritize improving and growth. Going from a C to a B is still pretty good! Keep chasing that growth. You’re more than a report card.

All best, I’m rooting for you!
