FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We have compiled a list of common questions and answers you may find useful. If you have a question that is not shown here, please e-mail us at: mediakl@unicef.org or send us a DM on UNICEF Malaysia Instagram.

Who can enter the Picture My Rights Contest?
Anyone between 13-24 years old on the closing date, 22 October 2023. You also have to be currently living in Malaysia.

I live outside of Malaysia, can I enter?
No, unfortunately the contest is only open to children and young people living in Malaysia.

Is there an entry fee?
No. Entry to the contest is free.

How many photos can I enter?
You can enter as many entries as you want, however only one of your entries can win in this contest.

What format and size should I submit my photos in?
Upload your maximum-quality photo in JPEG format.
Your photo should be between 2MB and 5MB in size. Don’t crop the final picture too much. If your photo is larger than 5MB, please reduce the file size, but keep the original file.
To take high quality photos, please use a camera or mobile phone with at least 5 mega pixels.

Sorry! I don’t have a digital camera. Can I use a mobile phone to take the photo?
Yes, you can use a camera phone with at least 5 megapixels to take your photos.

Can I enter the same photo in more than one theme?
No, you must not enter any picture (or a similar picture) into more than one theme. The judges may move any individual photo into another theme if they think it is likely to be shortlisted.

Is there a time limit on when the photograph was taken?
The photograph should be taken from 1 January 2021 onwards. Photos taken before this will be disqualified.

Can I alter images using photo software?
You may use contrast and colour settings to make your pictures look really good, and you can remove dust spots that have appeared by accident. You can also change an image from colour to black-and-white but don’t add artificial colours or change them too much.
If the judges feel that an image has been manipulated beyond the above parameters, then the entrant and all of their entries will be disqualified. The key is to keep it real!

Can I enter composite or montaged images?
No. Composite or montaged images, from more than one original image, are not eligible. This includes images shot at different times and combined. However, multiple exposure ‘in camera’ is permitted.

Can I have my logo or name on the photograph?
Do not embed or watermark your photos with logos, names or borders. We will disqualify all photos that have watermarks of any sort.

When is the closing date?
The closing date for this contest has been extended to 22 October 2023. Unfortunately, any entry received after this date will not be entered. This is the final extension for this contest.
I’ve tried to submit my entry but it says that I exceeded the age limit.
Unfortunately, if you are 25 or older on 22 October 2023, you will be unable to enter this contest.

My Instagram account is private. Can I email my submission?
Yes, you may. Please email your submission to us at mediakl@unicef.org and send us an Instagram DM to alert us.

What happens after I submit my photos?
We will contact you if your photo has been shortlisted for judging. All entries being considered for the judging phase will require a completed consent form. If you are below 18 years old, the form will have to be completed by your parent or guardian.
We will require MyKad details in the Consent Form for verification purposes in the event your entry wins.

When will the winners be announced?
The top 4 winning entries will be announced in November on the Picture My Rights website in conjunction with World Children’s Day. The winning photographs will also be a part of the World Children’s Day virtual exhibition.
